Ramona Martinez

Ramona Martinez is a Latina journalist whose work has been featured on PBS's Chicago Tonight and NPR's Morning Edition. She is a part-time producer at NPR's Newscast, where you can sometimes hear her 45-second news spots. Most of the time, however, she works behind the scenes, helping to get the hourly broadcast on the air. When she's not working on headline news, Ramona runs a blog and podcast called The Civil War Tours, where she speaks to historians, park rangers, and other experts about the American Civil War. She is also a Civil War re-enactor, and can be seen (dressed as a man) playing fife in the Calvert Arms Fife & Drum Corps, or for the 23rd United States Colored Troops. The personal highlight of her career so far has been meeting Luis Tiant, whom she met producing her favorite story to date, on Latino players breaking the color line in Major League Baseball.

OluwaTosin Adegbola

OluwaTosin Adegbola, Ph.D is a tenured associate professor in the School of Global Journalism and Communication at Morgan State University. Her academic backgrounds are in public relations, English literature, mass communications and publishing, with degrees and training from Kentucky State University, Howard University and Columbia University.

Dr. Tosin, as she is typically called, is coach of Morgan’s award-winning Honda Campus All-Star Challenge team. Her research works and interests are focused on women’s images and the ideologies that lend themselves to better understanding societal relationships with women’s images. As a professional she has worked as a publicist, media relations specialist and consultant for various entities.

Internationally bred since the age of two, Dr. Tosin was raised in Europe (United Kingdom), and Africa (Nigeria and The Gambia), with cultural influences from more than a few countries. Under the pen name T. Richard, she recently published Skinny Women are Perfect, a novel that chronicles the lives of four seemingly perfect friends who appear to have the world at their feet and explores issues of love, career success, and self-esteem.

Adisa Bakari

Adisa Bakari is a partner in the Washington, DC based law firm Dow Lohnes PLLC., where he also serves as President and founder of the Sports & Entertainment division.  Adisa counsels professional athletes with respect to the negotiation of player and marketing contracts, in addition to various other aspects of their athletic and post-athletic careers. He is certified as an agent by the National Football League Players Association and the National Basketball Players Association.

Sports Illustrated and Jet magazines highlighted  Adisa’s first of its kind client retreat in Washington, DC; which focused on wealth management, branding, and building positive relationships with the media. This DC retreat, which included visits to the White House and the NFL Players Association, epitomizes Adisa’s investment and commitment to his client’s success on and off the field, during and after their careers. His aim is to have his players view themselves as corporate executives, not just professional athletes. 

Adisa currently represents close to 30 NFL players, including Pro Bowlers Antoine Bethea of the Indianapolis Colts and Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jacksonville Jaguars, as well as All Pro running back Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears.

Wilmer J. Leon III, Ph.D.

Wilmer J. Leon III, Ph.D. is a Political Scientist whose primary areas of expertise are the prison industrial complex and voter disenfranchisement. Dr. Leon is a Lecturer in the Political Science Department at Howard University in Washington, DC where he teaches courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in National Government, Introduction to Political Science, Introduction to Black Politics and Judicial Process.

Dr. Leon is a recognized scholar and much sought after speaker and writer. He is a nationally syndicated columnist with the Trice-Edney News Service. His Opinion/Editorials are also published regularly in The Root, The Grio, Black Agenda Report, Black Politics on the Web, Politic365, The Maynard Institute, and many others.  He writes on Congressional Politics, the Presidency, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, American Government, and Public Policy with a vast understanding of international issues as well. 

Dr. Leon is a Magna Cum Laude graduate with a BA in Political Science from Hampton Institute, a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from Howard University, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Howard University where he studied under Ronald Walters, Joseph McCormick, and Lenneal Henderson.  He hosts and produces “Inside the Issues with Wilmer Leon” on Sirius/XM 128 and appears regularly on RT TV, CNN, MSNBC, and TV One.
